Golden Jubilee celebration of Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra



Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra, one of the oldest surviving literary body of Assam celebrated the concluding function of its golden jubilee on January 29 after year-long celebration starting in September 2010. A public meeting was held in the district library auditorium of Nagaon with Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, the president of Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra in the chair.

Mileswar Pator of Marigaon was given the 'Kalangporiya  Sahitya Bota' in the meeting for his important thought-provoking contributions to Assamese literature. It may be mentioned that Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra has been offering the literary award 'Kalangporiya  Sahitya Bota' since 2006. Receiving the award, Pator said that the authors must work for unity of all ethnic groups of Assam.


Distingushed story-writer Devabrata Das and poet Nanda Singh attended as guests of honour. Devabrata Das dwelt on the techniques of story writing and said that the contemporary issues like river dam also can be good topics for stories. Nanda Singh called upon the young generation to rise to the occasion in view of increasing violence in different parts of Assam. He also said that Dr Bhupen Hazarika should have been given Bharat-Ratna as that would have kept the Assamese people attached to the national main-stream.

Dr Durlov Chamua, MLA of Nagaon released the souvenir 'Kalangjyoti' edited by Pranjal Bordoloi on the occasion and expressed hope that Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra would go far. Earlier, General Secretary Navakanta Ligira explained the purpose of the meeting and elaborated the history of the organization. A literary and art competition was held in the morning of January 29 and the winners were given cash prizes in the meeting. Two founder members, Chandra Mohan Kakoti and Narendra Nath Bora were also present as guests. Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti expressed satisfaction over the love showed by people to Kalangporiya Alochana Chakra. Haren Hazarika, General Secretary of golden jubilee celebration committee anchored the meeting and Paran Barua offered vote of thanks.
