Ebook edition of Srimanta Sankaradeva's Bargît translation released

Srimanta Sankaradeva created a new classical school of music, known as Sankari music with his Bargît. He created new Râgas for singing the lyrics known as Bargît. These Bargîts or Great Songs are one of the main modes of conveying the principles of the Eka Sharana Nâma Dharma, the Vaishnavite order founded by Srimanta Sankaradeva. The saint composed these lyrics in the Brajâwalî form of Assamese language. These lyrics, composed in 15th-16th century, are considered great treasure of Assamese literature. They describe the glory of chanting God’s name and also narrate the attributes of lord Krishna as well as his exploits.

The book 'Great Songs' is an attempt by Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti to render these great lyrics in simple English. Composed in verse form by Dr Borkakoti, this English translation gives the readers across the world a glimpse into the philosophy of Srimanta Sankaradeva. This English edition of Bargît was first published by ‘Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva’ in 2012. The book 'Great Songs' has now been made available globally as an ebook. The ebook edition is published by Tridib Borkakoty, a USA based engineer. He has taken the responsibility of making the book globally available. The ebook can be procured at the link http://www.amazon.com/Great-Songs-Rendering-Sankardevas-ebook/dp/B00BYANA3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363904270&sr=8-1&keywords=sanjib+kumar+borkakoti
