My personal background

Early life I was born at Bongalpukhuri, Na-Ali, Jorhat, Assam, India on 27th May, 1960. My father Harendra Chandra Borkakoti was an engineer, working in the Public Works Department, Assam Government, who expired in 2007. My mother Jyoti Prabha Borkakoti is daughter of Lakshminath Dutta, former Head-master and Principal of Jorhat Government Boys Higher Secondary & Multi-purpose School. I spent my childhood in different places of Assam. I lived with my family at Boko, Mirza, Jalukbari (Guwahati), North Lakhimpur, Laluk, and Dhemaji. I have five siblings, two younger brothers, two elder sisters and a younger sister. All of them are married. My eldest sister Pritam has expired. Education I received first education at home from a tutor named Badan Chandra Talukdar. I studied in several schools. Those were Boko L.P. School, Mirza L.P. The second edition of my English translation of the great scripture Namghosha has been published by the reputed internationally renowned publisher Motilal Banarasidass Publishing House, New Delhi (established in 1903) under the imprint New Age Publishing.  Madhavadeva (1489-1596 AD) was an associate as well as disciple of Srimanta Sankaradeva. He was an erudite scholar. Born at Narayanpur in Assam, Madhavadeva dedicated his whole life to serving his preceptor. He helped Srimanta Sankaradeva to propagate the newly launched Vaishnavite order Eka Sarana Nama Dharma. This order preached devotion to a single God, Lord Krishna. Srimanta Sankaradeva asked Madhavadeva to author a book elucidating the theories of Eka Sarana Nama Dharma, which would also serve as a book of prayer hymns for the devotees. Dr Ratul Chandra Bora Sankari Sahitya Sanskriti Award 2021

Jorhat district committee of Asom Sahitya Sabha selected me for the Dr Ratul Chandra Bora Sankari Sahitya Sanskriti Award 2021. It was arranged by a trust named Dr Ratul Chandra Bora Sankari Sahitya Nyas. They selected me as the first recipient of the newly constituted award. It was declared in a meeting on 21st December, 2021. The date of award ceremony was decided as 23rd January, 2022.

Webinar series on Different facets of Sankaradeva Studies

A webinar series on Different facets of Sankaradeva Studies , organized by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva was started with the maiden lecture programme by Dr Arshiya Sethi, dance scholar and Fulbright fellow from New Delhi on 19th December 2021. She talked on the theme “Going Global: Sankaradeva and the Living Arts of the Sattras.” The programme was moderated by Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, author and scholar of Sankari culture. Dr Arshiya Sethi referred to the recognition of Sattriya dance in national level on 15th November, 2000 and spoke about the challenges coming after that in her lecture. She gave special reference to the devotees residing in the Sattras, the Vaishnav monasteries of Assam. The recognition was accompanied by a change in its practising population, a re-gendering of its performers, a change in its location, from sacred to secular, as well as a change in its agenda and content, she said. Flushed with new patronage since 2000, it has developed along diverted aest
