Bargeet Samaroh

A  Bargeet Samaroh was held recently under the auspices of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva at Duliajan Club on December 25, 2016. It was organised by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva in association with Duliajan Club. The Sattriya Kendra of Sangeet Natak Akademy sponsored the event. Several maestros presented Bargeet in full classical style in the Bargeet Samaroh. It was for the first time that such an event was organised in Assam. Every Bargeet took about 20 to 30 minutes to render. The maestros who performed were Nilakanta Burabhakat of Bhogpur Sattra, Majuli, Gunindra Nath Oja of Barpeta, Gopiram Borgayan Oja Burabhakat and Upen Borgayan of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli, Dhiren Chekonidhara of Narayanpur, Dr Pabitrapran Goswami of Saudkuchi Sattra, Jorhat and Ranjit Bora of Golaghat. THE REDEEMER - English novel based on Srimanta Sankaradeva

THE REDEEMER is an English novel based on the life of Srimanta Sankaradeva. It is the first English novel written on the life of the saint. It has been published by Eastern Book House, Guwahati. The ISBN is 978-93-83252-91-6. It was released on June 11, 2016 at Nagaon. It will soon be available with major online vendors. Till then one can collect the novel from the counter of Eastern Book House, located opposite Panbazar Girls School. The proprietor can be contacted at 94351 95550. Ankiya Bhaona Samaroh in New Delhi

Sangeet Natak Akademi organised the 8th Ankiya Bhaona Samaroh in New Delhi from 21 to 24 March, 2016. It was held in the Rabindra Bhavan, Copernicus Road, New Delhi. The four day event was attended by many scholars from both within and outside the country. Four Bhaona of Srimanta Sankaradeva;s Ankiya plays were performed by different groups from Assam. Seminars  also were held every day during the  Ankiya Bhaona Samaroh. I presented a paper titled 'Aharya of Ankiya Bhaona' on March 24 . I dealt with all the seven components of Aharya as well as their origin in my paper. Read my paper here I showed powerpoint slides of Aharya items and also a video of ornament making, which had been recorded in our workshop on Aharya last year. Majuli Friendship Day

Majuli Friendship Day was organised by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva in Nagaon to create awareness about the wealth and issues of Majuli. The programme started with plantation of sapling in ADP College premises by  Padmashree Jadav Payeng  with co-operation of ADP College Teachers Council. Tree plantation by Jadav Payeng in ADP College The people gathered on the occasion took an oath “I take a vow to do my best to preserve the ecology. I will plant at least one sapling every year in my premises.” It was administered by Jadav Payeng. Then the main event started in  Nagaon Natya Mandir. An  Art competition & Photography Exhibition was held there on the theme 'Majuli'. Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, VC, MSSV formally inaugurated the event. He was assisted by Nalini Bora of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha and others.  Dr Deka  said that plantation of trees and taking proper scientific measures was necessary to address the problem of erosion faced by river island Majuli.
