Bargeet Samaroh
A Bargeet Samaroh was
held recently under the auspices of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva at
Duliajan Club on December 25, 2016. It was organised by Society for
Srimanta Sankaradeva in association with Duliajan Club. The Sattriya
Kendra of Sangeet Natak Akademy sponsored the event.
Several
maestros presented Bargeet in full classical style in the Bargeet Samaroh. It was
for the first time that such an event was organised in Assam. Every Bargeet took
about 20 to 30 minutes to render. The maestros who performed were Nilakanta
Burabhakat of Bhogpur Sattra, Majuli, Gunindra Nath Oja of Barpeta, Gopiram
Borgayan Oja Burabhakat and Upen Borgayan of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli, Dhiren
Chekonidhara of Narayanpur, Dr Pabitrapran Goswami of Saudkuchi Sattra, Jorhat
and Ranjit Bora of Golaghat.
The maestros also spoke about Bargeet alongwith
their performance and answered questions. Nilakanta
Burabhakat and Gopiram Borgayan Oja Burabhakat also performed
Oja-geet. The
event was started by a performance of Ranjan Bezbaruah of Nagaon, who sang a Bargeet
in Sanskrit. Dr Mallika Kandali performed a Sattriya Nritya based on Bargeet.
The local artists also rendered a Bargeet.
It may be mentioned that Gopiram Borgayan Oja Burabhakat is 94 year old and another
performer Cheniram Atoi who played Khol is 82 year old.
Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti in his concluding remark hoped that this event will help the Bargeet singers to learn the correct style of rendering them. Pradip Hazarika, co-ordinator of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva welcomed everyone at the outset while Mridu Moucham Bora, Secretary of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva compered the event.
